EL PASO, Texas — El Paso County raised its tally of flood-hit houses in the Horizon corridor past 190 on Thursday and asked neighbors to pitch in with volunteer time and supply donations while Lakeway and Mountain Shadow streets keep digging out from days of heavy rain.
County staff said helpers are needed for phone banks, door-to-door welfare checks and debris hauling, and a sidewalk cleanup shift is set for Friday morning at 9. Drop-off points include the Agua Dulce Self Help Center at 15371 Kentwood Ave., the preferred site, and the Family and Youth Services Center at 6314 Delta Dr., with organizers asking donors to call ahead before unloading goods.
Statewide emergency managers are pushing the paperwork track in parallel. The Texas Division of Emergency Management said it has invited the U.S. Small Business Administration to join state and local teams for early damage reviews across El Paso County communities battered by the late-month storms and flash flooding.
Texas Emergency Management Chief Nim Kidd said those joint surveys will show whether the state clears thresholds for federal disaster aid. Residents are still asked to log home and business losses through TDEM’s iSTAT tool at damage.tdem.texas.gov when conditions are safe, and the governor’s disaster order for El Paso County remains active while recovery work continues.
For volunteer or donation logistics, county contacts Lorey at 915-474-0367 and Claudia at 915-487-9648 are taking questions as crews keep working Horizon-area blocks that still show water lines, mud and roadside debris from the storms.
