EL PASO, Texas — A teenager from Socorro died before dawn Wednesday when his motorcycle slammed into the rear of a pickup on Socorro Road in El Paso, Texas, the El Paso Police Department said.
Officers were called around 3:30 a.m. on Oct. 28 to the 9800 block of Socorro Road in the Lower Valley. Police identified the rider as Raul Alberto Sias, 19.
Investigators believe Sias was headed east on a blue 2006 Yamaha when he struck the back end of a black 2011 Dodge Ram that was traveling the same stretch of road. He was thrown from the bike and died of his injuries. No injuries were listed for the man behind the wheel of the truck, a 24-year-old who also lives in Socorro. Police said speed contributed to the crash.
Early word from the scene described a motorcycle hitting a pedestrian, but police later said no pedestrian was involved.
The department’s Special Traffic Investigations Unit took over the case, and both directions of Socorro Road were shut at Vallarta Drive for hours. A police spokesman first alerted the public to the closure in a message sent shortly after 4 a.m. Real-time traffic data from the Texas Department of Transportation had the road open again by about 10:30 a.m., roughly seven hours after the crash. The crash site sits inside El Paso city limits, just west of the line with the city of Socorro.
Police counted the death as the 56th traffic fatality in El Paso so far in 2026. That is the same total the city had at this point last year, leaving the 2026 pace for deadly crashes even with 2025 heading into the final two months of the year.
