EL PASO, Texas — Rain is headed back to El Paso, Texas, just days after weekend storms flooded part of the northwest side. The forecast gives the city a 50% chance of showers and thunderstorms Thursday afternoon, with showers likely Thursday night.
The next two days should stay dry. Tuesday looks sunny with a high near 78 and a low around 59 overnight, and Wednesday warms to about 80 before clouds build Wednesday night.
Storm chances climb Thursday under partly sunny skies and a high near 77. Thursday night brings a 60% chance of rain, with a possible thunderstorm before midnight. Friday should turn mostly sunny with a high near 74, but another round of showers and storms is possible Friday night, with a 50% chance. More showers are possible Sunday and Sunday night, and Monday turns sunny and cooler with a high near 70.
The wet pattern follows heavy rain Saturday night that sent high water into a northwest El Paso cul-de-sac and forced 16 households out of their homes. City officials said Monday that 15 of those homeowners have returned, and at least one home was badly damaged. City street and maintenance crews and El Paso Water cleared the standing water, and the city plans an after-action review to learn why flooding was so severe there.
Donations of cleaning supplies and household items for affected families can be dropped off Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. at the Westside Regional Command Center, 4801 Osborne Drive. City Rep. Alejandra Chavez of District 1 helped organize the drive, which is also taking diapers, wipes, trash bags and paper towels.
