EL PASO, Texas — Ken Paxton is coming back to El Paso for one more rally before Texans pick their next U.S. senator. The Republican nominee, now the state attorney general, plans to speak Sunday, Nov. 1. Doors at the Orca Event Venue, 11323 Rojas Drive, open to supporters at 3:30 p.m.
This will be his second visit to the city in just over a month. Back on Sept. 30, Paxton rallied here alongside a Republican congressional candidate, laying out his economic agenda and taking aim at his rival.
At that September event, Paxton promoted an economic platform he calls Protecting the Texas Promise and cast Talarico as the most extreme Democrat ever to seek statewide office in Texas. Talarico, for his part, has made his own trips west, and both campaigns clearly see the Borderland as worth the long drive in the final weeks of the race.
That opponent is Democrat James Talarico, and the two are fighting for the seat John Cornyn is leaving. National attention on the race is intense, and survey after survey has shown Paxton trailing, in part because some Republicans have held back their support.
In the closing stretch, Paxton is pressing his own backers to cast ballots and to bring other Republican voters along.
The El Paso date is one of 30 stops on his Come and Take It tour. The swing started Oct. 17 in Rockwall and wraps up Monday, Nov. 2, at the Alamo in San Antonio, the day before polls open on Nov. 3.
Talarico has been working the Borderland too. He campaigned in El Paso on Monday, Oct. 26, his last scheduled visit before the vote, after an earlier trip in July.
